Fuel Injection Pump Plunger Stroke Height / Plunger Lift Measurement




Actual or precise fuel injection timing is very much important for proper combustion of the fuel. A regular fuel injection pump plunger stroke height or lift measurement is necessary to achieve proper combustion.

Every time after replacement or overhauling fuel injection pump it is impotent to measure and adjust fuel injection pump plunger stroke height or lift.

Injection timing is measured by dial indicator when the pump plunger stroke at TDC and Advanced from TDC (Fly wheel mark) ie, fuel injection pump plunger free and pushed with cam lobe.

Fuel Injection Pump Plunger Stroke Height Measurement Procedure:

At first remove the cam cover.

Fit clamping piece on cam follower of the fuel injection pump and dial gauge holder on the camshaft casing.Clamping piece, dial gauge with holder installed.

Turn running gear with turning device in the direction of engine rotation until the cam follower is free of cam lobe / on the cam base circle.

If the ignition TDC is passed, repeat the turning operation, Turn only in the direction of engine rotation.


Take the dial/measuring gauge reading or reset to zero position.

Initial Reading

Turn running gear with turning device in the direction of engine rotation until piston is in ignition TDC.

Take the measuring gauge reading and note the value.
